Artist Profile

Born on the 16th May 1977, Willis Otieno is an art diploma graduate of Mwangaza Art School Kisumu. Since Graduating from the school in 1999, he has done a lot of painting work on murals, drama back-drops for Kenya Schools and Colleges drama festivals.
He has also participated in various joint exhibitions here in Kisumu and in Nairobi. His recent art works made from recycled eggshells got him media coverage by the East African standard newspaper and a live interview.
Willis is also the secretary of Tong Nyang’ artists group and coordinator of Takataka Treasure project of the same group. Takataka(Trash) Treasure is a project where waste material is recycled to become treasured art pieces, hence the name.

2010: A joint exhibition at the Village Market, Nairobi, with the Lake Basin artists Group (LBAG).
2010: Represented Nyanza Province at the National Art exhibition at the GoDown Art center Nairobi.
2010: A joint exhibition at the Kisumu Museum, with the Lake Basin artists Group (LBAG).
2009: A joint exhibition at the Village Market, Nairobi, with the Lake Basin artists Group (LBAG).
2009: Art works featured in an exhibition by Kushinda, an organization based in Wales U.K.
Workshops
2009: Attended a workshop in Nairobi organized by Changamoto Arts Fund.
2009: Participated in a capacity building workshop in Kisumu organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
