Jimoh Ganiyu

Jimoh Ganiyu Akinloye (Jimga) obtained B.A and M.A in Graphic Designs and Art History respectively from The University of Lagos, Nigeria.

He is an artist who believes in using art as a weapon of effecting societal change. A cartoonist, an art historian, a teacher and a visual journalist, he is a member of professional art societies which include the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA), Lagos, Art Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA) and the New York and Cartoonists' Right Group.

Jimga has won many awards at different levels, the most recent being the National Universities' Commission(NUC) Individual Award in Arts and Humanities (Development) at the 4th Nigerian University Research and Development Fair, held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka between November 22-26, 2010, for his research and exhibition of cartoons.

2008 : “Articulation”, Final Year Exhibition, University of Lagos.

2010 : Cartoon Exhibition at the 4th Nigerian Universities Research and Development Fair, University of Nigeria Nsukka.

2010 : Exhibition of Cartoons at the Seminar on “Info Tech in The Electoral Process, Empowerment and Leadership: The Roles of The Nigerian Youth”. Organised by 1 Thumb at The Main Auditorium, University of Lagos.

Workshops

2010 : Third International Colloquium on Gender Studies, Institute of Legal Studies, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. Paper delivered titled “Popular Culture or Popular Craze: The Role of Advertising in Sexual and Gender Stereotyping.”

2010 : 4th Nigerian Universities Research and Development Fair, University of Nigeria Nsukka. (Member of University of Lagos contingents, headed by the DVC. Academics,Prof. M.Ogunlesi).
